Board of Abatement

MAIN TASK: The Board of Abatement grants a taxpayer relief from the burden of property taxes, penalties (collection fees), and interest if it finds that a taxpayer falls within the criteria set forth in Vermont Law (see 24 V.S.A. §1535(a)). Abatement exists to permit the board to prevent an injustice or to help a taxpayer who faces extraordinary circumstances that make it difficult for the taxpayer to meet their tax obligations.

MEMBERSHIP: The Board of Abatement is comprised of the Selectboard, Town Clerk, Town Treasurer, Justices of the Peace, and Assessor.

MEETINGS: The Board of Abatement meets on an as-needed basis.
