Energy Committee

MAIN TASK: the Energy Committee advises the Town on matters of energy policy and serves as an informational resource to the citizens of Barnard for energy matters. The Energy Committee works with the Planning Commission on the Energy Chapter of the Town Plan, as well as offers resources and coordination for projects that conserve energy, reduce the town’s carbon footprint, and transition to renewable, sustainable energy sources. The committee also monitors the solar array at the Barnard Volunteer Fire and Rescue Station to dial in the percentages to meet each town building's needs and to avoid creating a backlog of excess credits so that the town does not forfeit any that have been accrued.

For spring 2025, the Energy Committee is planning an "energy fair" at the Town Hall.

Past activities include:

  • An 18-month Barnard Home Energy Upgrade & Barnard Bonus Campaign to make home weatherization and fuel-switching accessible to all interested Barnard homeowners.
  • Application for funding from the Municipal Energy Resilience Program (MERP) for energy assessments of the town hall and town garage, and heat and lighting improvements in the town hall.
