The Barnard Town Forest Fire Warden issues open burn permits for the burning of natural wood and yard waste (brush) from property maintenance or clearing. PLEASE NOTE that the burning of building materials and/or trash is never allowed. To request a permit text or call Stuart Hull at 802-234-8549.


Barnard Volunteer Fire & Rescue (BVFD) was established in 1951. The BVFD responds to an average of 65 community calls per year that range from fire, first response, mutual aid, motor vehicle accidents, assorted alarms, odor investigations, and power lines down. Broad Brook Volunteer Fire Association (BBVFA) was established in 1955 to provide fire service to the East Barnard area and the Broad Brook watershed, which traverses Pomfret, Barnard, South Royalton and Sharon. The BBVFA responds to an average of 7 community calls per year. The Emergency Services Building is located at 5458 Broad Brook Road.
