Green Up Day is a statewide coordinated effort on the first Saturday in May each year. In 2025, 427 tons of trash was picked up by more than 25,000 volunteers throughout the state. In Barnard, we had 64 people and one dog pick up 53 bags of garbage. The goal for 2026 is to clean 100% of all Vermont roads. (It was close last year -- 95%!)
Here's how to participate:
Step 1. Reserve the morning of May 2, 2026 to participate in this statewide effort!
Step 2. Plan to arrive to the Town Hall on Green Up Day between 7:30AM and 11:30AM.
Step 3. Sign up for a stretch of town road. Fill out this form to try to get "dibs" on your first choice. No guarantees!
Step 4. Receive an official Green Up Day trash bag.
Step 5. Take your time, enjoy the walk, and plan to get a little dirty.
Step 6. Toss your Green Up Day trash bag in the truck out front of the Town Hall or at the Transfer Station by 4PM.
Thank you for your willingness to volunteer and to view your community from a different vantage point.
