Barnard Volunteer Fire Department and First Response
The Barnard Volunteer Fire Department and First Response provides fire, EMS and rescue services for most of Barnard. Mutual Aid support is supplied by the Broad Brook Fire Department, and by the fire departments in Bethel, Pomfret, Woodstock, South Royalton and White River Valley Ambulance.
The BVFD currently has 29 active volunteers and has a First Response roster of highly trained volunteers that include 1 paramedic, 6 EMTs, 2 advanced EMTs, and 2 Emergency Medical Responders. The Fire Chief is Scott Mills.

Broad Brook Fire Department
The Broad Brook Fire Department primarily supplies fire service to the East Barnard area with mutual aid support from Barnard Volunteer Fire Department, and the South Royalton and Pomfret volunteer fire departments.
The Fire Chief is Art Lewin, and the Deputy Chief is Fred Schlabach.
White River Valley Ambulance
White River Valley Ambulance (WRVA) is a non-profit, paramedic-level ambulance service based in Bethel. It serves Barnard and the central Vermont communities of Bethel, Braintree, Brookfield, Granville, Hancock, Pittsfield, Randolph, Rochester, and Stockbridge.

The town’s Constables/Dog Wardens are elected at Town Meeting, and are responsible for safety issues involving dogs and other domestic animals. The Wardens are expected to handle animals in a humane and responsible manner; and deal tactfully but firmly with animal owners, to enforce any ordinances and state statutes.

Windsor County Sheriff
The Windsor County Sheriff provides law enforcement services to the towns of Windsor County, including Barnard. The Sheriff’s office is primarily concerned with enforcing Civil Law.
